Baby Dedications Baby Dedication We believe the Bible states very clearly that parents are the ones that are to teach their children about God. Here at Upatoi Baptist Church we want to partner with you in training up your child. "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6 One of the first steps that you can take is dedicating your child back to God. Is there scriptural evidence for baby/child dedication? In Samuel 1:27-38, Hannah dedicated her son Samuel to the Lord. In Luke 2:22 Jesus was dedicated to the Lord as a baby (and then baptized as an adult). Is dedicating a child to the Lord the same as infant baptism? No. In the dedication of children, the primary emphasis is not on the child, but on the parents. We are making public our intentions to make sure that our child that has been given to us by God, is reared in faith. The dedication does not ensure that child's salvation, but rather it gives parents an opportunity to express their intentions of gaining Godly wisdom through scripture to raise there child knowing Gods love and serving Him. We believe the Bible teaches baptism is only for those who understand what sin is, and have decided to become followers of Jesus Christ 2 photos |
