Sammie and his wife, Jennifer, came to Columbus, GA in 1996 on his journey of professional baseball. Sammie Played three years of minor league baseball, mostly in the Cleveland Indians system, while posting a 13-4 career record and one league Championship (New York-Penn League).  He played his college baseball for the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders. He was drafted out of high school by the San Francisco Giants in 1991, drafted by the New York Mets in 1994, and then drafted and signed by the Cleveland Indians in 1995.

After leaving the game he loved, he traded the pitcher’s mound for the preacher’s mound. He worked for FCA (Fellowship of  Christian Athletes) for four years after finishing his Bachelor of Science Degree from Columbus State University in 2000. Sammie recently completed his Master of Arts in Christian Studies from Luther Rice University and Seminary.  He became an ordained Southern Baptist Minister in 2001.

Sammie has preached internationally with GraceWalk Ministries, and has served as Team Chaplain for the Columbus Wardogs Arena Football Team, and the Columbus Catfish Professional Baseball Franchise for the past 5 years.  He currently is also a High School History teacher at Hardaway High School in Columbus, GA.

Sammie and Jennifer, his wife of 17 years, have a son, Cole; and a daughter, Chloe.
